A $1.7M USD 1988 Porsche 959 "Komfort"
The recently sold 1988 Porsche 959 "Komfort" at RM Sotheby’s Las Vegas auction is one of only 292 standard-production units, with 31 finished in the less-common Graphite Metallic. Originally unveiled in 1983, the 959 marked Porsche's entry into the FIA Group B international rally championship. Known for its technological prowess, it featured a powerful engine, innovative all-wheel-drive system, and luxury amenities.The 959, with its aluminum, polyurethane, and Kevlar construction, housed a 2.85L, twin-turbocharged flat-six engine generating 444 horsepower. Despite its impressive performance and luxury features, the 959 faced initial commercial challenges, resulting in significant losses for Porsche. Chassis number 149, owned by an Italian Porsche executive, underwent a $140,000 USD restoration by an American collector before being recently auctioned for over $1.7 million USD at the aforementioned RM Sotheby’s Las Vegas auction!
