A $52 million US Mercedes-Benz W 196 R was just sold

At an auction in Stuttgart, one of the priciest cars in history was sold after a brief yet intense bidding war. In a matter of just over 15 minutes, an anonymous buyer emerged victorious with a final bid of more than $52 million US (51.1 million euros) according to German media outlet SWR.

The car in question is a 1954 Mercedes-Benz W 196 R, famously driven by British Formula 1 legend Stirling Moss, who secured multiple F1 victories behind its wheel. While the price tag is staggering, it doesn't claim the title of the most expensive car ever sold. In fact it is far from it, how incredible as it sounds, as that record was set in 2022, when a Mercedes 300 SLR Uhlenhaut Coupe fetched the equivalent of $142 million US at auction!
