A record-breaking Leica 0-Series No. 105
Leica is the legendary German manufacturer of high-end cameras and some of the most iconic photographs have been taken by Leica cameras. Recently, at the Leitz Auction’s 20th anniversary, a special Leica camera was sold for a record breaking sum. This Leica 0-Series No. 105 camera was previously belonging to Oskar Barnack who was the man that in 1913 built what would become the first 35mm still camera that was commercially successful and the camera was subsequently called UR-Leica at Ernst Leitz Optische Werke in Wetzlar. The camera laid the groundwork for modern photography in the 1920s’ and also the Leica 0-Series No. 105 in the subject for this article. So, this personal Leica 0-Series No. 105 of Barnack was produced in 1923 and now some 100 years later it was sold at auction for $15,149,000 US making it the most expensive camera ever sold at auction!
