Another painting (restoration) disaster

The painting ”Three Figures” by the Russian artist Anna Leporskaya was recently vandalized by a security guard on his first day of work at the Jeltsin Center gallery in Yekaterinburg, Russia. The guard was allegedly bored and thought it would be a good idea to use a ballpoint pen and, in a true Mr. Bean- manner, draw eyes on the otherwise eye-less figures on the canvas that is worth around $900,000 US. The motive of the action is still unclear but a representative of the exhibition told The Guardian that it was the result of some sort of temporary madness. Although this reason probably is true perhaps, as our headline entails, another (and more fun) reason would be if he was inspired by other disastrous restorations such as the one on the ”Ecce Homo” fresco and wanted to do his own restoration. What do you think? This disaster has however led to the painting having to be restored for approximately $3000 US and that the guard, not so surprisingly, was fired from his job. Well, at least you can take this situation as a lesson for how you should NOT start your first day at work!
