Antibes

This summer we spent two weeks in southern France, more closely in Antibes. The city is located in between Nice and Cannes at the Côte d’Azur. Apart from the incredibly beautiful surroundings (obviously, since we talking about the French riviera) the city can also offer a wide variation of cultural, gourmet, and relaxing experiences.

There are lots of litterature and tips of what to do in Antibes, but we have chosen to write about three parts of the city that we think are as interesting as fun to know a bit more about.

Port Vauban

Mega Yachts at Quai des milliardaires, where you can see some of the world's most luxurious yachts, to small fishing boats, and everything in between. That is what you will find at Port Vauban, which has been a historic important harbour since the 4th century.

Spend a morning just walking around the harbour looking, or why not rent a boat for a day to see Antibes from the ocean?

Close to Port Vauban you find Fort Carré, the fortress of Antibes. Fun fact is that a lot of scenes from James Bond - Never Say Never Again (starring our favourite 007, Sean Connery) is filmed there!

Old Antibes

The provencal market is a must to visit in the old town of Antibes. There is a charismatic, hectic and authentic experience you get while looking for local vegetables, fruits, commodities or meats.

After that we suggest you eat lunch at restaurant Mamo Michelangelo, which is located close to the east side of the wall that surrounds the old town. A gourmet restaurant that Mick Jagger and Rihanna for example, have enjoyed.

An afternoon activity could be to stroll around the narrow streets up to Château Grimaldi and the Picasso Museum, which became the first Picasso Museum in the world in 1966. He lived in Antibes in 1946 and produced 23 paintings here. Another artist that were fascinated with Antibes and painted pictures of the city was Claude Monet.

Today you will find many petite ateliers in Antibes, and we can see why. With all the picturesque surroundings, this is an artists paradise.

Cap d'Antibes

The western part of Antibes is the edge of Antibes, or in french: Cap d’Antibes. A green oasis with majestic ocean view, where super luxurious villas are situated.

Here you also find one of the few hotels in Antibes, Eden Roc. Because of the location, the luxury resort has a magnificent view over the famous crystaline waters of Cote d’Azur. On top of that Eden Roc offers gourmet food, chic drinks and a ”la dolce vita” vibe that appeals to Epicureans from all over the world.
