Banksy - Show Me The Monet

Most of us are familiar with the French impressionist Claude Monet but if you aren’t, still you have probably seen one of his most famous works The Water Lily Pond 1899. Well, Sotheby’s will be auctioning a dystopian painting inspired by Monet’s work later this October, made by no other than Banksy himself. The world known (yet unknown) elusive British artist illustrates the pollution and damages on the environment caused by humans, through a dystopian scene with shopping carts and a traffic cone dumped into the pond in contrast to Monet’s idyllic composition. Show me the Monet was first seen as a part of Banksy’s exhibition “Crude Oils: A Gallery Of Re-Mixed Masterpieces, Vandalism and Vermin in London” in 2005. So, on October 21, Banksy’s Show Me The Monet will be up for auction at Sotheby’s London with an estimated pre sale of $3.8-6-4 million USD!
