A dramatic scene took place at Sotheby’s three years ago as Banksy’s artwork Girl with Balloon was shredded during its auction. The British artist, known for his critical views of modern society, had installed a hidden device to shred the canvas as a statement against the art world establishment. However, the shredded Girl with Balloon, which now is called Love is in the Bin is up for sale at Sotheby’s Contemporary Art Evening Sale on October 14 and the impact of the shredding seems to have made the artwork even more desirable. In fact, Love is in the Bin is expected to fetch around $11 million US which is four times as much as the original Girl with Balloon was sold for in 2018!
