Brioni
Named after Brijuni in the Adriatic Sea, formerly an Italian island but now Croatian, by founders Nazareno Fonticoli and Gaetano Savini, the brand Brioni is one of Italy’s absolute finest. The men’s tailoring fashion was mainly defined by the tailors at Savile Row, London, during the first half of the 20th century, but in 1945 when Brioni opened its first boutique in Rome on Via Barberini 77, the Italian couture house would soon become the lifestyle of choice for movie stars, head of state and business leaders.
To push the boundaries for fashion, Brioni became in 1952 the first brand in history to stage a mens catwalk show pioneering the usage of male models. The event which took place inside the Sala Bianca at Palazzo Pitti in Florence introduced new silhouettes, bold colors and innovative fabrics. As a result of that, Brioni made a great impact of the fashion world and has continued with that since then. For example, the company has (except for the men’s runway show) invented concepts such as the trunk show, and the ready-to-wear Haute Couture, which has been a point of reference for the entertainment, institutional and business worlds.
In 1959, the Brioni atelier opened in Penne, Abruzzo. Home to the heart of the Italian tailoring tradition. Tailoring is a cultural legacy that takes decades to transmit from a seasoned master to a young talent. Brioni’s founders faced the importance to safeguard the Brioni tradition with a bold intuition: invest in the schooling of new generations. In 1985 when the Scuola di Alta Sartoria opened in Penne, it was the sole existing tailoring high school in Italy, but it quickly turned into an institution of Abruzzo and a crown jewel of Italian savoir faire.
The stylistically pure fashion, with a signature edge makes Brioni to the high acclaimed brand that it is, and why stars such as Brad Pitt, Drake, Pierce Brosnan amongst many other have chosen Brioni when walking the red carpet.
For this fall/ winter collection, actor Matt Dillon is the testimonial for Brioni’s “Tailoring Legends” advertising campaign. Considered as one of the most respected actors of his generation, Dillon reinforces the brand’s bond with Hollywood. Captured in New York, the black and white images highlight the strong personality of the actor who brings his individual sense of a style to a selection of the brands’s finest tailoring, ready to wear and eveningwear.
Brioni transmits the essence of elegance, and the clothes are nothing but quality in the purest of forms. With no further explanation needed: here are our Brioni favourites!
