Budweiser's FIFA World Cup prize

Budweiser/Twitter

As the final of the FIFA 2022 World Cup in Qatar will be played this Sunday, we want to reiterate the news that broke out two days before the premiere when FIFA changed its mind and decided that no beer will be allowed at the arenas during the games. Budweiser, which is a large sponsor of FIFA, has therefore a giant amount of beer that allegedly is worth around $79 million US and can not be sold. Because of this situation the brewery wrote on Twitter that the World Cup winners will (apart from lifting the precious trophy) get the “unsellable” beer. Understandably, Budweiser is not happy with this situation to say the least and according to Front Office Sports, Budweiser wants a $47,4 million US deduction from its $112 million US sponsorship for 2026 FIFA World Cup in Mexico and Canada as compensation. Well we will have to wait and see what happens but one thing is for sure: there will be no shortage of beer for the World Cup winners to celebrate the victory with!
