Jean-Michel Basquiat is an artist known for his graffiti and neo expressionism, and was one of the first Afro American artists that got accepted and praised in the American art society. At auction house Philips new outpost in the Hamptons, the highlight of its November evening sale of 20th century contemporary art is a special Basquait painting. Portrait of A-One A.K.A King is a tribute to Basquait’s close friend and legendary graffiti artist in New York, A-One. Earlier this summer Basquait set a new record for a work on paper, as Sotheby’s sold his Untitled (Head) for $15.2 million USD and this July, Philips sold Basquait’s paper on canvas work Victor 25448, for $9.3 million USD.
