Patek Philippe - Grandmaster Chime, the world's most expensive watch

At the Swiss watch auction Only Watch in Geneva last year, known for the extreme prices and models, the expectations for which models that was going to be sold and the fetches that they were going to bring were almost limitless. Although few people thought that there was going to be a record breaking fetch for a watch, that was exactly what happened. The previous record for a wrist watch belonged to Paul Newman’s iconic Rolex Daytona which was sold for nothing less than $17.7 million at an Phillips auction in 2017. Well, the new world record for the most expensive wrist watch, from last years Only Watch auction, now belongs to a very special Patek Philippe. The unique stainless steel Patek Philippe Grandmaster Chime ref. 6300A with two dials, reversible case, and 20 complications was sold for a breathtaking price of $31 million!

Patek Philippe wrist watches have historically dominated and performed well at the Only Watch auction, and at other Swiss auctions. To name another watch (not a wrist watch though), which was previously the world’s most expensive watch, is another Patek Philippe. The Henry Graves. Jr. Supercomplication, which has a lot in common with the now most expensive wrist watch, was sold for $24 million at Sotheby's Geneva in 2014.
