“Portrait of the Artist as a Young Derelict” by Jean-Michel Basquiat

Christie’s

For Christie’s 21st century Evening Sale in New York this May, the auction house’s highlight is a triptych by none other than Jean-Michel Basquait. Named “Portrait of the Artist as a Young Derelict”, this artwork from the legendary artist was created on wooden panels and depicts signature motifs of his’ such as anatomical studies and the three point crown. The art work has never been up for auction before, so we can just imagine that the demand for this rarity at Christie's auction in May will be, in lack of better words, crazy! Therefore, the bidding for “Portrait of the Artist as a Young Derelict” by Jean-Michel Basquiat will start at $30 million US but we will not be surprised if the final bid surpasses that astronomical sum.
