Reefsuites, the underwater hotel

At Australia’s first underwater hotel, Reefsuites, you’ll get real close to nature. The hotel’s two suites is located five metres under the surface, just outside Hardy Reef. Reefsuites, that opened in December last year, is run by Cruise Withsundays and apart from the underwater suites, there are 28 luxury tents on top of the floating pontoon. The beautiful diving experience that the Great Barrier Reef is offering has been well known for a long time, and that has lead to discussions about damaging the ecosystem. But according to Cónde Nast Traveler the tourism can be good for the ecosystem because of the limited access, around 8%, of the Great Barrier Reef that is open for visitors as well as tourism operators must pay a fee for every visitor that the bring to the reef.
