Scène de rue à Montmartre by Vincent van Gogh

The masterpiece Scène de rue à Montmartre by Vincent van Gogh is a very rare artwork from his series of works that depicts Moulin de la Galette in Montmartre, Paris. The Dutch genius (who, after suffering from mental health problems allegedly cut off a piece of his left ear, wrapped it in a paper and gave it to a prostitute named Rachel) made the painting in 1887 during the time that he lived in Paris and formed his inimitable painting style. This artwork, which this article is built around, beautifully captures the vibrant atmosphere of Montmartre in the late 19th century when Parisans came to drink and mingle around the, nowaday non existing, mills. Scène de rue à Montmartre has remained in the same family collection for more than 100 years but is now heading to auction at Sotheby’s Paris based auction house Mirabaud Mercier on March 25. Estimated to fetch between $6 million USD and $9.7 million USD, we feel confident to say that the masterpiece Scène de rue à Montmartre by Vincent van Gogh will be one of this year's auction highlights!
