Smiley Tourbillon by Richard Mille

The embodiment of joy and positivity of the Smiley, which was drawn by Franklin Loufrani over 50 years ago, was the inspiration for Richard Mille’s RM 88 Automatic Winding Tourbillon Smiley watch. The design and craftsmanship of the watch demonstrates a holistic approach which is reflected on the dial where the Smiley’s face is surrounded by happy miniature sculptures such as pineapples, sunrays, flowers, a flamingo, a cactus and a rainbow. Furthermore, the RM 88 Smiley’s bezel and caseback are made from ATZ white ceramic (which is one of the hardest materials in the world) and the caseband is made of 18 K 5N red gold. This watch from the Swiss automaker is a masterclass of craftsmanship and it is limited to only 50 units, therefore it probably comes as no surprise that the Richard Mille RM 88 Automatic Winding Tourbillon Smiley is priced at $1.2 million US!
