“Untitled” (1982) by Jean-Michel Basquiat

Phillips’ 20th Century & Contemporary Art Evening Sale previous this month featured artworks from icons such as Pablo Picasso, Andy Warhol and Yayoi Kusama. However, the highlight of the auction was Jean-Michel Basquiat’s “Untitled” 1982 painting. The artwork, which measures 16 feet wide and depicts a devil, was painted in 1982 by Basquiat and is allegedly a self-portrait. Last time the painting was sold was in 2016 for $57.5 million US but the value had turned out to have increased a lot since then. Basquiat’s “Untitled” (1982) painting fetched a staggering amount of $85 million US, making it the most expensive lot that Phillips has ever sold!
