“Visionary: The Paul G. Allen Collection”

Christies

The incredible art collection of the late Paul Allen is heading to auction at Christie’s in November at the Rockefeller Center. The late co-founder of Microsoft’s collection includes 150 artworks in total with pieces such as La Montagne Sainte-Victoire (1888-90) by Paul Cézanne and Jasper Johns’ Small False Start (1960) as well as other works from Botticelli and David Hockney. As Cézanne’s piece on its own is valued at $100 million US and John’s is valued at $50 million US, perhaps it comes as no surprise that this collection in total has the highest valuation for a private collection that has ever gone to auction. In fact, the “Visionary: The Paul G. Allen Collection” is estimated to fetch $1 billion US (!) and the proceeds will go to philanthropic causes just as Paul Allen requested before he died.
