$32 Million T-Rex Skeleton sold at Christie's
This is by far the oldest “thing” we have written about here. This “thing” though, is nothing else than a nearly complete skeleton of a 67 million years old Tyrannosaurus Rex. The name comes from the Greek words: tyranno- meaning tyrant and saurus- meaning lizard, and the Latin word for king: Rex. So, “the King of the Tyrant Lizards” in the subject for this text is Stan, named after Stan Sacrison who found the initial bones of the 37 foot long skeleton in 1987 in South Dakota, USA. Last Tuesday night, Christie’s New York sold this historic king, after two years of hard work getting Stan to the auction block. The pre-sale estimate was around $8 million USD but after more than ten minutes of intense bidding, Stan was sold for a tyrannic price of nearly $32 million USD (with total fees). The new owner of Stan is yet unknown. It’s probably a museum but imagine for a second if it is a private person.. Well in that case, someone just got the most important piece for his/her own Jurassic Park at home!
