Joaquin Phoenix To Play Napoleon Bonaparte
For Ridley Scott’s upcoming Napoleon Bonaparte biopic Kitbag, the Academy Award winning actor (he won for his role as the Joker 2020) Joaquin Phoenix will unite with Scott and portray the French emperor. Born August 15th in 1769 in Ajaccio at Corsica as Napoleone di Buonaparte, Napoleon I as he renamed himself to, became a statesman, military leader and ultimately the emperor of France between 1804-1814 and during the “Hundred days” from March 20 to June 22 in 1815. He conquered a major part of western and central Europe as well as Egypt, which has led him being considered as one of the greatest military commanders in history. However, after failing with his campaign against Russia, his position as leader was weakened and after the defeat at Waterloo he was put in exile at the island Saint Helena, where he died May 5th in 1815.
The task of portraying one of the most famous and controversial leaders in history demands great acting and who is better for the job than Joaquin Phoenix? His portrait of the emperor Commodus in the cult movie Gladiator resulted in a Academy Award nomination, so now we are super excited for how he will interpret and showcase the rise and fall of Napoleon Bonaparte. This movie really has the potential of becoming a classic!
