“The Swan of Avon” or the “Bard of Avon” might be unfamiliar names for a lot of people but if we say that they are names that William Shakespeare (1564-1616) has been called, then we all know who we are writing about. The English national treasure is considered by most people as the greatest writer of all time with legendary plays such as Macbeth, Romeo and Juliet and the Twelfth Night. Recently the auction house Christie’s had the honor of finishing the six months long auction of Shakespeare's “First Folio” and the lucky winner and now owner of the historic folio is antiquarian Stephan Loewntheil. It is not only one of the most significant historic folios, it is also now the most expensive work of literature as it fetched a record breaking $9.978 million USD. We imagine that William Shakespeare’s “First Folio” gets a special place in the bookshelf!
