Paul Allen's record-breaking art collection

The recent sale of Paul Allen’s art collection was a record breaking one. From the auction’s first day, incredible artworks by the likes of George Seurat, Paul Cezanne and Vincent Van Gogh were sold. Seurat’s Les Poseuses, Ensemble (Petite version) was sold for $149,240,000 US, Cezanne’s La Montagne Sainte-Victoire fetched $137,790,000 US and for Van Gogh’s Verger avec cyprès the winning bid was $117,180,000 US. From the second day of the auction, highlights we should mention were Typewriter Eraser, Scale X by Claes Oldenburg and Coosje van Bruggen ($8,405,000 US), Sam Francis’ Red no. 1 ($6,780,000 US) as well as Cinema de Pepsi III by Frank Stella ($5,580,000 US). These artworks along with many others made this astounding art collection of the late Microsoft co-founder Paul Allen fetch a staggering sum of $1,622,249,500 US which makes it the most expensive art collection ever sold!
