The Most Expensive Japanese Whisky Ever Sold

Auction house Sotheby’s has set a new record for the most expensive Japanese whisky ever sold. The bottle is a Karuizawa 52 Year Old Cask #5627 Zodiac Rat 1960 bottle of whisky. Karuizawa was a small distillery that produced first-class malt whiskeys and produced the first 100% domestic malt whisky in 1976. Even though the distillery was small it was known for producing whiskeys of the finest quality which have made it highly sought after products. Karuizawa closed down in 2012, which has made the whiskeys even more rare to find nowadays and as a result of that, the price for Karuizawa whiskeys has skyrocketed. The Karuizawa whisky mentioned in the beginning of this text was the oldest to ever be bottled and was expected to fetch $260 000 USD at the Sotheby’s auction, but the winning bid was nothing less than $435 273 USD!
