Pablo Picasso's 1934 painting, Femme a la Montre (Woman with a Watch), recently sold for an impressive $139 million USD at Sotheby's, surpassing its initial $120 million estimate. The artwork, depicting French model Marie-Thérèse Walter in Picasso's signature Cubist style, became the most valuable piece sold at auction globally this year. Femme a la Montre, portraying Picasso's muse during his affair from 1927 to 1935, provided him a "sense of release," allowing artistic freedom with vibrant colors and meticulous details. Previously part of The Emily Fisher Landau Collection, the artwork that was sold to an anonymous buyer, is now the second-highest-selling Picasso at auction, following Les Femmes d’Alger (Women of Algiers), which achieved $179.3 million at Christie's in 2015!
